The GBRFF is one of North Queensland’s leading film festivals and serves up an exciting program of Australian feature films, short films and documentaries, plus industry talks, workshops and family fun in a spectacular tropical island paradise.

You're invited to join us for our World Premiere and Gala Opening Night in Townsville, plus Shorts At The Sea, Village Shorts, and a weekend of film held at the Arcadia Village Hotel on spectacular Magnetic Island in the Great Barrier Reef.

THURSDAY 7 SEPTEMBER - 6.30pm
World Premiere of 'Zelos' and Gala Opening Night
at Event Cinemas, Townsville CBD. Meet the crew on our red carpet launch night!

FRIDAY 8 SEPTEMBER - 5pm to 10.30pm
Enjoy a fabulous selection of short films from around Australia at 'Shorts At The Sea - Official Selection'. Held at a spectacular location by the sea with food and a bar available on the night, this event is not to be missed!

SATURDAY 9 & SUNDAY 10 SEPTEMBER - 10am to 10.30pm
The GBRFF weekend continues at the Arcadia Village Hotel and includes 'Village Shorts - Director's Choice', feature movies, documentaries, FREE industry forums, FREE workshops, film fun for kids, and a range of film events that will satiate the appetites of everyone from film enthusiasts to film professionals - with special events for families. Tickets on sale NOW!

Discount ferry and movie tickets are available. You will need to get in early to secure accommodation on Magnetic Island, and to book your GBRFF tickets.

GBRFF is proud to announce the world premiere of Zelos at the red carpet Gala Opening Night on Thursday 7 September, 6.30pm at Event Cinemas Townsville CBD.

Join us for a drink and nibbles prior to the movie at this red carpet event, and stay for a Q&A with director/producer Jo-Anne Brechin, writer/producer Claire Harris and co-producer Steve Jaggi afterwards. See Zelos Trailer.

Session 1: SHORTS AT THE SEA - Official Selection

Fri 8 Sept: at the ferry landing, Geoffrey Bay, Magnetic Island.
6pm - 10.30pm

Imagine the setting ... A tropical island paradise, the lapping of waves are just meters away, the temperature is deliciously comfortable, a bar and food are at hand, and you sit down to savor a fantastic selection of short films for the evening. It can all be yours at the 2017 GBRFF Shorts At The Sea, on Friday 8 September - in fact, why don't you book a room and stay for the weekend on your tropical island escape, and soak up the rest that GBRFF has to offer?

Cost: $20 or $15 concession/pensioner/student
A bar and food are available on the night, but are not included in the ticket price.

PLEASE NOTE: Allow time for an easy 5 minute walk from the main road opposite Arcadia Village Hotel (near the bus stop) to the event site at the ferry landing. If you require assistance, please arrive early and let the gate staff know, so that we can organise transport for you.

The Great Barrier Reef Film Festival presents a range of feature films, short films, documentaries and animations from around the world, whilst highlighting Queensland film makers and the varied cultures, stories and environment that surround and affect the Great Barrier Reef and the world's oceans and waterways.

Forums and workshops encompass film industry professionals, film students and film enthusiasts, and provide an environment that is conducive to fostering discussions, collaborations, connections and new opportunities to develop the film industry in North Queensland.
